about me

Hi. My name is Darrell Chaddock. I put this website together in order to showcase some of my work in Graphic Design and Motion Graphics. I'm a recent graduate of the New Media Design and Web Development program at the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) and I want to use my newly acquired skills to launch a new career.

For many years I worked as a hotel bartender from which I learned a great deal about interpersonal and communication skills and how to manage well under busy working conditions. Now that I've swapped out my cocktail shaker for a laptop, I'm very eager to begin gaining more experience in Digital Design.

I built this website using Webflow which was quite new to me before I began the project. There's always plenty to learn in Digital Design

Project 01: Branding For a Drinks Company

I created the following designs as part of my role in a group project with other students at BCIT. We were tasked with developing a Branding Strategy for a new company seeking to launch their products in the Vancouver market. To begin, we assumed the role of employees at a design studio called Lemongrass and then we came up with the idea of helping to launch a new line of canned beer and wine cocktails to be released for sale in the Summer of 2024. The original name of our imaginary client was Sad Pigeon Beverages. Since I didn't come up with that name, or design the initial logo, I designed to come up with another name and logo (ie. Can Opener Brewing). I did not want to use another student's work in my portfolio for obvious reasons.

Project 02: Advertising For a Camera Company

This second project is one that I worked on by myself for a Graphic Design course at BCIT. Students were given specific tasks such as designing a poster, a logo, a design tile, and finally a three-fold brochure for any fictional company we chose. Because of my interest in photography I came up with the idea of a retro style film camera that was to be introduced to a new, and young, demographic that has lately began to be fascinated with pre-internet analogue technologies like cassette tapes, typewriters, and yes, film cameras. I dubbed this imaginary camera "Voyager".

Project 03: Designing a Print Magazine

This third design project is one that I worked on by myself in a Graphic Design course at BCIT. Students were told to create a magazine layout using Adobe InDesign. Beyond that we were free to create any type of magazine we wished. Because of my love of both travel and photography, I quickly decided to craft a magazine devoted to travel and use my own photos to illustrate it.

Project 04: Designing a Product Launch For a New Travel Company

In this project I worked alongside two other students at BCIT. Our assignment was to design a product launch for a new company. The type of company was left to us to decide on. We settled a new travel firm that we named TravelEX. Though all three of us played an equal role in the project, the designs displayed here were solely my creations.
The concept of TravelEX is to offer small group tours to customers that revolve more around their hobbies and interests rather than emphasizing a particular destination to visit.

The group decided we would place our marketing emphasis on establishing on online presence for TravelEX.
